Selection guide

How to choose a CNC router

A CNC router should be matched to the parts, sheet size, tooling and software workflow rather than selected by spindle power alone. Nesting, routing, drilling and automatic loading each create different requirements for the table, vacuum system and tool arrangement.

Send sample drawings or toolpaths where possible. State the material, maximum sheet size, typical batch, required drilling, tool-change needs, labeling or loading requirements and the software used upstream.

Key factors to compare

Factor
What to confirm
Why it matters
Working area
Usable X/Y/Z travel and workpiece clearance
Confirms that the largest sheet and operation fit the machine.
Spindle and tooling
Material, cutter size, tool-change frequency and tool positions
Defines cutting capability and changeover time.
Vacuum hold-down
Pump arrangement, table zones, spoilboard and part size
Small parts and porous boards may need different hold-down planning.
Drilling and automation
Boring requirements, loading, unloading, labeling and scanning
Determines whether routing alone or an integrated cell is appropriate.
Software workflow
CAD/CAM, nesting output and file format
Avoids an equipment purchase that does not fit the data flow.

CNC Routers FAQ

These answers help prepare a useful configuration request. Final technical data is confirmed for the selected machine.

Sample drawings, toolpaths, nesting layouts, material information and a list of drilling and routing operations help define the configuration.

No. Spindle choice should follow the material, cutter, depth of cut, feed strategy and duty cycle, together with the machine structure and tooling system.

Hold-down affects cut stability and small-part retention. Board porosity, spoilboard condition, part geometry and vacuum zoning all matter.
